On June 19-20, 2018, attackers compromised Bithumb's hot wallet and stole approximately 35,000 ETH and various other tokens worth ~$31M at the time. The attacker's method exploited infrastructure vulnerabilities to gain access to the exchange's online wallet system. Bithumb attributed the attack to Lazarus, the North Korea-linked hacker group.

The attacker stole $30 million worth of cryptocurrency from Bithumb, Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange. According to Japanese Cointelegraph, the attackers hijacked Bithumb's popular (online) wallet.
