On May 16-24, 2018, Bitcoin Gold suffered a 51% attack in which attackers stole approximately 388,000 BTG (~$18M) through double-spend transactions targeting cryptocurrency exchanges. The attacker sent coins to exchanges, sold them for other assets, then reversed the initial transactions to reclaim funds.

Bitcoin Gold was 51% attacked by an unknown attacker. This type of attack allows an attacker to manipulate the blockchain ledger that records transactions. During the attack, 388,000 BTG (worth approximately US$18 million) was stolen from several cryptocurrency exchanges. After the team refused to help pay for some of the losses, Bitcoin Gold was subsequently delisted from Bittrex.
